Ignite Puts Four Conferences in One Room for Its October Summit in Fredericton

The Capital Region's economic development agency is betting that the best way to run a one-day conference is to run four of them at once.

Ignite has opened ticket sales for the fourth annual Ignite Summit, set for Tuesday, October 20, 2026 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fredericton Convention Centre, 670 Queen Street. The theme is From Local Strength to Global Impact, and the agenda is organized around what Ignite calls the four interconnected drivers of economic development: Business & Innovation, Government & Policy, Community & Place, and People & Talent.

The twist is the room itself.

A silent conference with four live channels

Rather than shuttling attendees between breakout rooms, Ignite is splitting a single venue into four simultaneous conversation spaces and giving everyone wireless headphones. Sessions in all four pillars run at the same time; participants change channels — and physically move between sections of the room — with the touch of a button.

"With wireless headphones, participants can move freely between presentations, selecting the conversations that matter most to them with the touch of a button," the event listing explains. "Multiple sessions take place at once in one shared venue, creating an energetic, collaborative atmosphere."

Ignite is explicit that no one has to pick a lane for the day: breakout sessions for each pillar happen concurrently, and attendees are welcome to sample more than one pillar as the day progresses. It is a format borrowed from silent-disco staging and applied to regional economic policy — which means the logistical risk sits with the AV, not with the agenda.

Manjit Minhas headlines

Ignite announced in late July that Manjit Minhas will deliver the keynote. Minhas co-founded Minhas Breweries & Distilleries at 19 and has spent a decade as an investor on CBC's Dragons' Den; Ignite's summit page cites annual revenues in excess of $220 million for the company and notes that the United Nations Association in Canada gave her its Global Citizen Laureate Award in 2024 for her work on gender equality.

"Her experience as an entrepreneur, investor and cross-sector leader makes her an excellent fit for the Summit," wrote Andrew Lockhart, Ignite's director of entrepreneurial and economic growth, in the announcement post.

The rest of the speaker roster is not final — Ignite is still accepting applications through a form on the summit page, which is the practical opening for founders and operators who want a slot in one of the four tracks rather than a seat in the audience.

Why a tech reader should care

Ignite is not a startup accelerator with a conference sideline; it is the economic development agency for the Fredericton region, operating since 1998 with roughly 28 staff, and it owns a meaningful chunk of the province's early-stage pipeline. Planet Hatch is its incubator. The MERGE program that just put two Fredericton startups into paid municipal pilots — SeaGreen Solutions' seaweed biochar in Queen Street planters and Cloudboids' permit-checking compliance AI — runs through the same organization, as does the Boost Ideation camp where both companies built their first prototypes.

Its own scorecard for 2026 so far: 150 jobs created, 79 businesses supported, 14 new business startups, seven programs with 158 participants, and 536 newcomers supported. In October 2025 the agency picked up two national Marketing Canada Awards from the Economic Developers Association of Canada.

The third annual summit, held October 23, 2025 at the same venue, leaned on sessions covering sales strategy, the economic impact of tourism, inclusive workplaces, business financing, and how AI is changing productivity for small firms. The 2026 restructure into four pillars keeps that mix but forces the tracks to run against each other — a bet that a room of policymakers, founders, educators, and investors gets more out of overhearing each other than out of a single-file keynote schedule.

Tickets

Early-bird pricing runs until August 5, which Ignite says takes $25 off the regular ticket price, with limited quantities. The Eventbrite listing currently prices the day between $62.77 and $93.39, includes lunch at the Convention Centre, and allows refunds up to seven days before the event.
