What Potential Motors calls the world's first motorcycle equipped with terrain-perception software rolled out at CES in Las Vegas this month — and the software on it comes from Fredericton.

The company unveiled a prototype built through a year-long partnership with KTM, the Austrian off-road powerhouse, putting its Terrain Intelligence platform on two wheels for the first time. Per the announcement, the system reads the ground ahead — surface type, obstacles, changing conditions — and turns that perception into information a vehicle can act on.

Why a motorcycle is a statement

Terrain Intelligence was born for off-road four-wheelers, where it can proactively adjust suspension and chassis settings. Porting the perception stack to a motorcycle — less compute headroom, harsher dynamics, zero tolerance for latency — is an engineering flex aimed squarely at OEM audiences. Showing it at CES alongside connected-vehicle standards work (the company has been active in COVESA) says the ambition is platform adoption, not a single model-year win.

The trajectory

Founded by four UNB students in 2018, through MTME and Energia Ventures, then a $2-million commercialization raise last spring — and now demo hardware with one of the most recognizable names in off-road motorsports. Automotive software is a long, brutal sales cycle, and a CES prototype is a milestone rather than a purchase order.

But consider the sentence now true: a global motorcycle manufacturer built its terrain-aware prototype on software from New Brunswick. The province's vehicle-intelligence bet keeps earning its next chapter.
