NBIF Opens Breakthru Again — With a $300,000 Pot
Applications run through November 9 for a four-month program that ends on a March 2027 stage. The three investment tickets are $150,000, $100,000, and $50,000 — if diligence clears.
NBIF has opened applications for the next Breakthru cycle. The foundation’s September 21 release says the window runs September 21 through November 9. The four-month program ends at a live finale in March 2027. Entrevestor has the same dates.
This is a new intake, not a recap of last March’s finale. That night put $100,000 into Infralytix and $50,000 each into Urai AI and Mulli Swing. This year’s tickets are larger.
Three tickets, if diligence clears
The 2027 program page lists the pot as more than $300,000 in “potential NBIF equity investment and in-kind prizes,” split as:
- one $150,000 investment opportunity
- one $100,000 investment opportunity
- one $50,000 investment opportunity
Every ticket is “subject to NBIF’s due diligence process and investment approval requirements.” That is the same wording the foundation used last spring: these are described as investments, not grants. A pitch night is the filter. A cheque still has to clear a second process.
“Some of New Brunswick’s most successful technology companies started as ideas with a founder willing to take a chance,” NBIF president and CEO Jeff White said in the release. “Breakthru helps entrepreneurs take that next step. It’s an opportunity to learn, challenge assumptions, build valuable connections, and accelerate the journey from idea to company.”
What the four months actually are
The program page is a founder-development track, not a single evening. Participants get workshops and bootcamps, mentorship, investment-readiness guidance, pitch coaching, and introductions to investors and other founders. The release calls it a four-month stretch that ends on the March stage.
Eligibility, as written, is thin and provincial: a technology-driven idea, a willingness to test assumptions, and a commitment to build in New Brunswick. You do not need a finished business plan. The release adds province-wide outreach and bilingual support during recruitment. It does not publish a bootcamp calendar, a semi-final date, or how many teams will make the March room.
Last year’s funnel is the only public benchmark. More than 140 entrepreneurs across 80 companies entered; five pitched live; three received investments. The 2027 page does not say those numbers will repeat.
What is not on the form yet
No 2027 company is named. No mentor list is public. The in-kind half of the $300,000 is not itemized. The March finale does not yet have a day or a room. Apply on the Breakthru 2027 page.
