UNB's Cybersecurity Institute Is Hiring Quantum-Safe Postdocs and Funded Grad Students

The Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity at UNB Fredericton is recruiting two postdoctoral fellows in post-quantum cryptography plus fully funded MSc and PhD students, backed by $600,000+ in NSERC Discovery and Mitacs funding.

A cracked classical lock gives way to a quantum-safe shield as two postdocs join a CIC lab bench and an amber $600K+ funding chip lands, with a readout showing two quantum-safe postdocs and funded MSc and PhD seats.

The Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity (CIC) at the University of New Brunswick's Fredericton campus is hiring. Two postdoctoral fellow positions are open in quantum-safe and post-quantum cryptography, and fully funded MSc and PhD students are being recruited to CIC research teams working on agentic-AI threat detection and related security topics.

Two postdocs in post-quantum cryptography

The two postdoctoral positions, posted under CIC researcher Sajjad Dadkhah, focus on post-quantum cryptography and quantum-safe migration: cryptographic protocol design, analysis and implementation, public-key cryptography, digital signatures, key establishment, crypto-agility, PKI, secure systems integration, and cryptographic engineering. It is a people-side follow-up to the institute's post-quantum migration research — from roadmaps to the cryptographers who build them.

Fully funded grad seats

Alongside the postdocs, researcher Mark Boata is recruiting fully funded MSc and PhD students to CIC teams working across AI, deep learning, NLP, IoT and network security, graph learning, LLMs, and cybersecurity — including advanced agentic-AI techniques for behavioural threat detection and behavioural graph representations for multi-hop stealthy threat profiling. Dadkhah is separately recruiting Master's and PhD students to his own CIC team, and the post later noted that more than 900 applications had come in and are under review.

The funding and the Mastercard chair

The grad-student push is backed by more than $600,000 in research funding secured through NSERC Discovery Grants and Mitacs, supporting two projects: "Advanced Agentic AI Techniques for Behavioural Threat Detection in Next-Generation Cyber Defence" and "Behavioral Graph Representation and Vectorized Knowledge Integration for Multi-Hop Stealthy Threat Profiling." Selected students will work closely with Mastercard Canada under Dadkhah's research chair program — another thread in the Mastercard-CIC relationship that brought the Fredericton summit to campus this year.

The graduates feed the Fredericton cybersecurity cluster, where firms such as Lastwall already sell quantum-resilient security.
