Gogii Games Turns 20 Without Leaving Main Street Moncton
George Donovan’s casual-games studio claims 90 products across seven platforms since 2006 — from Big Fish hidden-object hits to a still-shipping Cook Off / Virtual Families franchise.

Most New Brunswick tech coverage chases venture rounds. Moncton’s longest-running game studio just kept shipping.
Gogii Games marks twenty years in 2026 — a milestone the company already headlines on its About page as “20 Years of Success!” Founded in 2006 by industry veteran George Donovan, Gogii still lists home base at 713 Main Street, Moncton, while running a Halifax creative arm (Gogii Lighthouse) that continues to post Unity, art, and animation roles.
According to Gogii, the studio has produced 90 unique products on seven platforms and in 13 languages since inception. Treat those as company figures, not an audited census — and still recognize what they imply: two decades of catalogue work most provincial readers have never associated with a Main Street address.
From Big Fish cabinets to free-to-play kitchens
Gogii’s early reputation sat in the hidden-object / casual adventure boom distributed through Big Fish and similar portals — titles such as Princess Isabella, Escape the Museum, and Fairy Tale Mysteries that defined a generation of PC casual play (company games catalogue). Princess Isabella took Big Fish’s Game of the Year in 2009, a rare Atlantic Canada consumer-software trophy from that era.
As PC casual softened, Gogii moved with the market into free-to-play mobile — life-sim and time-management cooking games under the Cook Off and Virtual Families umbrellas. Live App Store / Google Play listings still credit Gogii Games Corp. for titles including Virtual Families: Cook Off, Cook Off: Animal Rescue, and Cook Off: Mysteries. On Steam, Gogii shipped Virtual Families 3 in February 2023. The studio also develops and licenses for other publishers — work-for-hire, licensed IP, and co-development are explicit service lines on the About page.
A word of catalogue hygiene: older partnerships with Last Day of Work (the 2017 Halifax expansion era) mean some fish-tycoon and virtual-families adjacent brands in the wider market are not original Gogii IP. Credit per store listing; do not flatten every casual sim into one logo.
The quiet export machine
Global Affairs’ Trade Commissioner Service previously framed Gogii as a studio that reinvented itself when the PC casual wave broke — growing from a one-person shop into a multi-dozen workforce at peak, then resizing around mobile live-ops. Entrevestor covered the 2017 Halifax studio opening with Last Day of Work as a partner anchor. Donovan’s public comments into late 2025 still point at acquiring and investing in existing F2P casual games with metrics — a roll-up instinct more common in mobile publishers than in grant-chasing startups.
Download and revenue mythology travels easily in games press. Mid-2010s company language cited cumulative downloads in the hundreds of millions; those figures are historical marketing claims, not a 2026 audit. What is current: live storefronts, a Moncton HQ that never rebranded into a Toronto shell company, and a Halifax hiring board that still wants Unity developers and 2D artists.
Why it belongs in the NB tech file
Gogii will never look like Introhive or a breakthru pitch night. That is the point. New Brunswick’s software economy includes long-lived product companies that fund themselves on catalogue cash flow, international licensing, and client development — the same durable layer as Dovico’s thirty-year timesheet franchise a few blocks of economic history away in Greater Moncton.
Twenty years on Main Street, ninety products by their own count, and a free-to-play slate still updating in 2024–2026 is a different kind of tech story: not a raise, a survival and shipping record. For a province that under-reports consumer software, Gogii is the quiet giant hiding in plain sight beside the coffee shops.
