UNB's Cybersecurity Institute Brings Research Poster Showcase to Fredericton Summit

The Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity gathers researchers at the Fredericton Convention Centre Aug. 20 for PST Cybersecurity Summit 2026, with poster work spanning adversarial AI, malware explainability, and safer enterprise LLMs.

UNB's Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity — the research engine behind Fredericton's cybersecurity cluster — is hosting its PST Cybersecurity Summit 2026 at the Fredericton Convention Centre on Aug. 20, with free registration open now.

The one-day event is built around a Research Poster Showcase introducing the institute's graduate students and faculty. The institute has been teasing the lineup on LinkedIn this week: adversarial AI defence, explainable malware detection, a "trust passport" for enterprise AI, and optimization research. More posters are promised before the summit, and the showcase doubles as a window into the talent pipeline that keeps feeding local security firms — the same pipeline behind datasets and graduates that anchor the city's security industry.

What's on the poster wall

Four projects have been previewed so far:

  • Adversarial Attack Mitigation via Mixture-of-Experts — a defence combining adversarial training with a Mixture-of-Experts architecture, testing stronger against FGSM and PGD attacks than prior MoE defences (Mohammad Meymani and Roozbeh Razavi-Far).
  • Prototype-Guided Dual Explanations for GNN-Based Malware Detection — an explainability framework that ties graph-neural-network verdicts to known benign and malicious behaviour patterns (Hossein Shokouhinejad, Razavi-Far, Griffin Higgins, and Ali A. Ghorbani).
  • Trust Passport for Enterprise LLM Pipelines — a per-response risk snapshot for AI outputs, flagging shaky retrieval, sensitive-data exposure, risky tool use, and weak factual support (Vidushi Agarwal).
  • Geometric Quadratic Separators for Symmetric Integer Programs — a geometric approach to cutting redundant search in symmetric optimization problems (Seyedeh Maryam Abbasnia).

How to attend

Registration is open on the summit site. The summit runs Aug. 20 at the Fredericton Convention Centre; the institute is posting the rest of the poster lineup in the days leading up to it.

It's a busy August for the institute: founding director Ali Ghorbani was named to the Order of New Brunswick earlier this month, and the academic Privacy, Security and Trust conference series the institute helps organize holds its 23rd annual edition in Ottawa this August.
